What is Audience Listing and Segmentation?

Mailercloud offers robust audience segmentation tools, allowing you to filter, categorize, and organize your contacts effectively. These features help you refine targeting, improve engagement, and optimize campaign performance.

How to Filter Your Audience in Mailercloud?

Filters allow you to segment your audience based on specific properties. You can apply different conditions to narrow down your audience and reach the right contacts.

2. Contact Details

Filter your audience based on their status and general details.

  • Email Status: Active or inactive contacts.

  • Email Verification Status: Verified or unverified email addresses.

  • Email Domain: Filter contacts by domain name.

  • Created Date / Modified Date: Identify when contacts were added or updated.

  • Signup Source: Track where contacts signed up from.

  • Contact Rating: Prioritize leads based on rating.

3. Activity-Based Filters

Activity-based filters help you segment your audience based on their interaction with your campaigns. This can be incredibly powerful in targeting engaged contacts or re-engaging inactive ones.

a) Contact-Based Activities

These filters are related to the general actions taken by your contacts across all campaigns:

  • Subscriber In Portion: Select a portion of filtered data, such as targeting only 10-20% of your contacts for a specific campaign.

  • Engagement Status: Determine if contacts have opened or clicked on any campaign.

  • Subscriber Opened / Clicked / Sent: Filter based on whether the contact opened, clicked, or was sent a campaign.

  • Global Engagers: Identify contacts who have engaged with campaigns from other Mailercloud clients.

b) Campaign-Based Conditions

These filters allow you to segment contacts based on their interactions with specific campaigns:

  • Opened / Clicked / Sent: Focuses on whether contacts opened, clicked, or were sent a particular campaign.

  • Not Opened / Not Clicked: Helps identify contacts who didn’t engage with a specific campaign, enabling you to target them for follow-up campaigns.

c) Sender ID-Based Conditions

You can also filter contacts based on the sender ID associated with the campaigns they received:

  • Opened / Clicked / Sent / Not Opened / Not Clicked: These filters work similarly to the Campaign-Based Conditions but are tied to a specific sender ID.

d) Automation-Based Conditions

For those utilizing automation workflows, these filters let you segment contacts based on their progress within a workflow:

  • Started Workflow: Contacts who have initiated a workflow.

  • Completed Workflow: Contacts who have finished the workflow.

  • Not Completed Workflow: Those who have not yet completed the workflow.

e) Conversion-Based Conditions

Conversion filters help you identify contacts who have taken specific actions that you consider conversions:

  • Has Happened / Not Happened: Segments contacts based on whether a conversion event occurred.

Key Information

1. Batch-wise Deletion of Contacts

When you delete a list, all the contacts in that list are also deleted. However, to maintain system performance, this deletion occurs in batches.

  • Batch Processing: This method ensures that the system remains responsive during large deletion tasks.

  • Time Estimate: For example, deleting 100,000 contacts may take 2 to 3 minutes.

2. Segment List Page Display

The segment list page is tailored to show only active contacts—those who are currently engaged and haven't been unsubscribed, suppressed, or bounced. If you click on the contact count in a segment, you will be redirected to the contact list page. This page will display all contacts, including non-active ones (like bounced, suppressed, or unsubscribed), but will use the same filters that were applied in the segment.

3. "Subscriber in a Portion" Filter

The "Subscriber in a Portion" filter is designed to let you select a portion of active subscribers. However, there are some limitations:

  • Active Contacts Only: The filter only shows contacts that are active subscribers.

  • Limitations: If contacts have recently changed their properties or analytics data, there might be inconsistencies in the filter's results.

4. Delays in Reflecting Bulk Actions

When performing bulk actions, such as adding or updating many contacts, there may be a delay before these changes are reflected throughout the system.

  • Bulk Actions: Operations involving large numbers of contacts, like adding or updating them.

  • Expected Delay: Due to asynchronous processing, these changes may take some time to appear.

  • Impact on Filters: Until the processing is complete, filters and segments may temporarily display outdated information.

Additional Information

These updates are intended to enhance performance and improve the user experience. While the system is optimized for handling large-scale operations, minor delays can be expected, especially during peak usage times or when processing large batches.
