The Mailercloud connector lets you run your email marketing by chatting with an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Cursor. You ask in plain words, for example "How did my last campaign do?" or "Design a spring sale email", and the assistant works directly in your Mailercloud account.
This guide covers what the connector can do, how it keeps your account safe, and how to get the most from it. For setup steps in each AI app, see Connect Mailercloud to your AI app.
A Mailercloud account. The connector is included at no extra cost on paid Mailercloud plans.
A Mailercloud API key. Create one in Mailercloud under Settings > API Keys. You only see it once, so keep it somewhere safe. Use a separate key for each AI app, so you can switch one off without affecting the others.
An AI app that supports remote MCP connectors. Some apps need a paid plan for this. See the setup guide for each app.
The connector address: https://mcp.mailercloud.com/mcp
Area | What you can ask for |
Campaigns | Create drafts, change the subject, sender or lists, check a draft for problems, send a test email, and schedule or send (always after your yes). |
Email design | Design emails that open in Mailercloud's drag-and-drop editor, preview them before saving, and change text, buttons, images or colours in saved emails. |
Reports | Analyse one campaign or your latest ones, compare campaigns, see who opened, clicked or unsubscribed, get results by email provider, and get a health check with clear next steps. |
Contacts and lists | Add, update or remove contacts (one at a time or in batches), manage lists, tags and custom fields, and look up any contact. |
Segments | Create segments from activity, tags and contact details, see a segment's rules, and change just one part of a segment. |
Transactional email (API Platform) | Send one-off or personalised emails such as order confirmations, and manage blocked addresses (suppressions). |
Account and setup | See your plan and contact usage, senders, reply addresses, sending domains, webforms and webhooks, and add a sending domain or webhook. |
Not sure where to begin? Ask your assistant: "What can you do with my Mailercloud account?"
The connector includes five guided tasks. In apps that show them (for example in a prompts or "/" menu), pick one and the assistant walks you through it:
Getting started: see everything you can do across Mailercloud and pick a first task.
Plan a campaign: audience, content, checks and a test send, ready to schedule.
Audit a draft: check a draft campaign before sending and get a fix list in priority order.
Monthly review: review recent campaign results and leave with three concrete actions.
Clean my list: check a list's health and walk through clean-up options safely.
Reading and analysing your data happens right away. Anything that sends email, deletes something or is hard to undo works in two steps:
The assistant shows you a preview of exactly what would happen: for a campaign, the sender, subject, about how many people it goes to, and when.
Nothing changes until you reply yes. Then the assistant carries it out.
This applies to sending and scheduling campaigns, sending transactional emails, deleting contacts, lists, tags, fields and webhooks, blocking addresses, changing a segment, changing a contact's subscription status, and saving changes to a designed email.
Good habits:
Read the preview before you say yes. A sent email can't be recalled.
If you want to look first, say so: "Preview only, don't save anything."
Your AI app may also ask you to approve each action. Choose "Allow always" only if you're comfortable with that, and keep approval on for anything that sends or deletes.
AI assistants can make mistakes. Check important results, such as a campaign's audience, in Mailercloud before sending.
Some things aren't available from chat yet. The assistant will tell you where to do them in Mailercloud:
Building automations (the assistant can read an existing automation, but not create one).
Adding and verifying senders and reply addresses, and creating webforms.
Uploading an image from your computer. From chat, the assistant can only upload an image from a public web link; for a file on your computer, use the image block's Upload option in the editor.
Segments based on custom fields. Build these under Audience > Segments for now. Segments on built-in details such as country or city, tags and email activity work from chat.
Billing, plan changes and email-sending usage (Settings > Billing & Usage).
The assistant can do what your API key allows across your whole Mailercloud account. Anyone using that AI connection can act on the account, so share it carefully.
Mailercloud receives only the requests your assistant makes to your account (for example "list my campaigns"), not your whole conversation. What you type in the chat is handled by your AI provider under their privacy terms.
To switch off access at any time, remove the connector in your AI app and delete the API key under Settings > API Keys. Deleting the key stops all access through it immediately.
Manage several Mailercloud accounts? Add one connector per account, each with its own name (for example "Mailercloud - Client A") and its own API key.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use other services safely. Any AI app that supports remote MCP connectors can connect to Mailercloud.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You add the connector address, sign in with your API key, and then just chat.
Which AI app should I use?
Any app that supports remote MCP connectors. Claude and ChatGPT are the easiest for everyday use; Cursor, Claude Code and Gemini CLI suit technical users. Answers vary a little between AI apps and models.
How is this different from the Mailercloud API?
The API is for developers writing code. The connector lets your AI assistant use Mailercloud for you from a normal conversation.
