What are the key terminologies in Zapier?

Learn the key terminologies associated with your pairing of Mailercloud account with an app in the Zapier.

Zap

A Zap is an automated workflow that pairs your app together. Each Zap that you create in Zapier, comprises an event and its associated actions. Now when you turn on your Zap, it will run the action automatically when the event conditions are met.

Trigger

A trigger is another word for an event, which actually initiates a Zap. Let’s understand this with a simple case. Suppose you have paired Mailercloud with Google Sheets. Now, whenever you add a contact to a Sheet, it will also automatically get added to your Mailercloud contact list. “Adding a contact in the Google Sheet” is the trigger event.

Action

Action is the task that is initiated after an event is triggered. For example, if you wish to update a contact in Mailercloud, whenever you make any changes in Google Sheets, then the action will be "Updating the contact in Mailercloud".

API Key

API stands for an “Application Programming Interface”. An API key is referred to as a way for different apps to talk to one another. To find your Mailercoud API key login into your Mailercloud account. Go to Account> Integrations > API Integrations. (Or, you can click here).

Action Event

An action event is a task that you want the Zap to complete for you. For instance, when you have paired Mailercloud with some app, then you can choose any of the two action events that can be, " Add Contact to List" or "Update Contact".

Add Contact to List

This is one of the action events that you will find when you integrate Mailercloud with any of the apps on Zapier. Let’s understand this with a simple case. Suppose you have paired Mailercloud with Google Sheets. Now, whenever you add a contact to a Sheet, it will automatically get added to your Mailercloud contact list also. However, you should ensure that your Zap is “On”.

Update Contact

This is another action event you will find when you integrate Mailercloud with any of the apps on Zapier. Let’s understand this with a simple case. Suppose you have paired Mailercloud with Google Sheets. Now, whenever you make any changes to a contact in a Sheet, it will also automatically get updated to your Mailercloud contact list. However, you should ensure that your Zap is “On”.

Test trigger

This option allows you to test the trigger before creating the trigger event. If you feel it needs any changes you can make the updates and finalize it.

Test action

Zapier allows you to test the action event that you have created, so as to ensure that it is working fine. In case you experience any flaws, you can fix them up before proceeding further.

Transfer

In Zapier, you can also migrate historical data for Zaps or sync existing data to Mailercloud through an option called "Transfer". With this option, you can easily transfer data between different apps by choosing the source and the destination of the data. To know, how to do this, click here
